Initial Teach Training

This scheme replaced the employment-based GTP route in September 2013.

School Direct is a school-led training course which allows you the opportunity to learn 'on the job' in a school setting and obtain a PGCE, Master Credits and thus Qualified Teaching Status (QTS). You will work as part of a 'teaching team' from day one – similar to student medics in a hospital - learning from experience with practicing colleagues so that you may immediately put your training and skills into practice.

The HTSAs mission is to recruit and retain high quality candidates into teaching to meet the needs of our locality. The HTSA offers a range of routes into teacher training to suit different people’s needs and circumstances. Our diverse alliance of schools has been involved in delivering high quality teacher-training for decades, and is now in the ideal position to offer a wide variety of School Direct routes into teaching.

Schools Direct Exchange Visit
Over the last two years we  have hosted students the SCITT from Skelmersdale, up north near Manchester.  We are doing an exchange trip with our School Direct teachers in 2018.  It is beneficial to collaborate and learn from each other – VERY different settings!
The dates to visit are:
29th Jan - 1st Feb   23 trainees (primary)
5th February - 8th Feb 13 trainees (early years)
